Pavilions are patterned after historic structures and provide a foreground focus to the postcard view of Downtown. Materials were selected for their durability and beauty: stone masonry and epoxy-coated steel framing are used within the floodplain, and are expected to be submerged from time to time. More delicate copper-clad wood is used above the high-water mark. The timber structures are whitewashed and illuminated at night to become beacons on the river. In time, their roof surfaces will oxidize to a soft green and will complement the color of the main span, which crosses the river into town.
