A forgotten corner of Norfolk becomes a remarkable beach town

Drawing on distinctive southeastern building types and town planning practices, UDA prepared a Pattern Book for East Beach, a redevelopment area in Norfolk’s East Oceanview neighborhood. Today, the town is fully realized – distinctly Tidewater in feeling – from its overall layout and landscape design to the details of its buildings. The new neighborhood is well-regarded for its pedestrian-scaled streets, hidden gardens, shuttered porches, narrow alleys, and overhanging roofs.
