Orleans Landing, Detroit, Michigan
Orleans Landing is a new urban infill project under construction in East Riverfront, between the Renaissance Center and Stroh Place. It is in direct proximity to Downtown Detroit, Belle Isle, the Lafayette Park neighborhood, and Windsor. In 2011 McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) approached the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) about the opportunity to develop a portion of the EDC’s lands.
Urban Design Associates (UDA) produced an Implementation Plan to guide the repurposing and redevelopment of the targeted EDC parcels. The larger revitalization strategy for the East Riverfront is now being advanced through the East Riverfront District Planning process. UDA was the lead master planner, architectural designer, and architectural illustrator for Phase I.
The character of the urban design and architecture grew distinctly from the historic and cultural assets of the East Riverfront. Mercantile and industrial elements relate to the context and have differentiated Orleans Landing as unique in the region.
