“Placemaking” – a particular passion of Greg’s – is at the forefront of his work as a principal of UDA. Greg joined Urban Design Associates in 1991, successfully forging a bicoastal career that also includes award-winning work as an art director for LucasFilm, Ltd. and the motion picture and television industries. His interdisciplinary approach and experience in art direction enrich UDA’s projects, especially those of a placemaking nature.

As an architect and urban designer, Greg is particularly adept at taking traditional architecture and making it relevant to both the context and objectives of a client project while also advancing the strategies, design concepts, and techniques to suit a 21st century milieu. He is particularly skilled at taking an in situ historic base and building on it to create a compelling new place that people will enjoy interacting with both physically and emotionally. A LEED accredited professional, Greg applies sustainable design principles, using proven methodologies and time-tested approaches, to all of his work.

Notably, Greg has designed the anchor set for NBC Sports coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. He has also art-directed numerous highly regarded motion pictures and television shows, including: Star Wars: Episode II & III, A Confederacy of Dunces, Prefontaine, Backdraft, Avalon, Terminator II, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the television series, Seven Days, for which he won an Emmy™ Award for outstanding art direction. Greg has also led or made significant contributions to a diverse array of high profile master plans, pattern books, and architectural projects throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including new towns; downtown and neighborhood revitalization efforts; corporate headquarters; and institutional, municipal, and landmark buildings.

A registered architect in California, Greg is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a member of The Art Directors Guild, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the American Film Institute. Greg serves on the Board of Directors of City Theatre and the Carnegie Science Center.

Greg earned a Master of Fine Arts in Production Design from The American Film Institute and a Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California, both in Los Angeles, California. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Design from La Roche College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
