“Placemaking” – a particular passion of Greg’s – is at the forefront of his work as a
principal of UDA. Greg joined Urban Design Associates in 1991, successfully forging a
bicoastal career that also includes award-winning work as an art director for LucasFilm,
Ltd. and the motion picture and television industries. His interdisciplinary approach and
experience in art direction enrich UDA’s projects, especially those of a placemaking nature.
As an architect and urban designer, Greg is particularly adept at taking traditional architecture
and making it relevant to both the context and objectives of a client project while also advancing
the strategies, design concepts, and techniques to suit a 21st century reality. A LEED accredited professional,
Greg applies sustainable design principles, using proven methodologies and time-tested approaches,
to all of his work.
Notably, Greg has designed the anchor set for NBC Sports coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China
and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. He has also art-directed numerous highly
regarded motion pictures and television shows, including: Star Wars: Episode II & III, A Confederacy of
Dunces, Prefontaine, Backdraft, Avalon, Terminator II, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the television series,
Seven Days, for which he was nominated for an Emmy® Award for outstanding art direction. Greg has also led or made
significant contributions to a diverse array of high profile master plans, pattern books, and architectural
projects throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including new towns; downtown and neighborhood revitalization
efforts; corporate headquarters; and institutional, municipal, and landmark buildings.
A registered architect in California, Greg is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Congress for the New Urbanism,
and the Urban Land Institute. He is also a member of The Art Directors Guild, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, The Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the American Film Institute.
Greg earned a Master of Fine Arts in Production Design from The American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California and a Master of Architecture
from the Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from La Roche College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
