Jim is an architect and the director of technology with Urban Design Associates (UDA). He joined UDA in 1982 as a design project manager.
Fascinated by computer technology, Jim also led its early introduction and evolution within the firm. After purchasing UDA’s first CAD
systems in the late 1980s, Jim’s emphasis shifted from managing design projects to a primary focus on computer and communications
technologies that enhance the quality and efficiency of work produced by the firm. By creating technology infrastructure, selecting
appropriate software tools, and implementing techniques that support UDA’s design teams as they travel throughout the United States and
abroad during public design processes, Jim contributes significantly to the success of UDA’s charrette-based work. Jim also manages
UDA’s Resource & Publications team, focusing the work of this diverse group of professionals whose specializations include print and
web publications, traditional illustration, animation, video production, and architectural design.
Jim received his Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University in 1980. He is a registered architect in Pennsylvania and a
member of the American Institute of Architects.
