The Northwest Gateway Building is a key element in the plan to complete Seaside’s Central Square. Together with Leon Krier’s soaring tower, the building will be visible as drivers and pedestrians approach the center of Seaside. Its gabled architecture is designed to create a visual landmark at the entrance to Seaside Square for those arriving to the Square from the west.
The building is designed in conformance with the Seaside Code, providing residential units over ground-floor retail. The architecture is a simple, restrained classicism, drawing on precedents of traditional urban buildings of the south, the Florida vernacular, and Seaside’s own inherent character. By taking advantage of their visibility, the design is coordinated with buildings across County Road 30A to urbanize the road and to create a “place” at the entrance to the Square.
