The Southwest Gateway Building is a key element in the plan to complete Seaside’s Central Square and the entrance to Seaside from the south side of County Road 30A and the beach. Together with Leon Krier’s soaring tower, it will be visible as drivers and pedestrians approach the center of Seaside. Its architecture is designed to create a visual landmark as the entrance to Seaside square.
The north building provides residential units over ground floor retail along 30A. The design is coordinated with a building across 30A, to urbanize the road and take advantage of its visibilty and create a 'place' at the entrance to the square. The architecture is a simple, restrained classicism drawing on precedents of traditional urban buildings of the south, the Florida vernacular, and Seaside’s inherent character. The buildings are arranged to create a picturesque arrangement around a small piazza, that will serve as a forecourt to the larger, Seaside Central Square.
