Urban Design Associates was commissioned by Disney Development Company to prepare community design and architectural guidelines for residential development in a new town called Celebration. Based on traditional pattern books, the Celebration Pattern Book establishes the principles for creating a series of community spaces with residential development. The primary building type is the single family house, but there are also townhouses and garden apartments. Celebration is a mixed-income community, and the design guidelines emphasize scale and elements which will make it possible to have a harmonious relationship among houses of different sizes and styles. The architectural pattern book describes the precedents that influenced the design of the town, sets the design character for each neighborhood and identifies the elements of six traditional architectural styles. Key elements such as massing types, roof pitches, eave details, window configurations, porch designs, and materials, are drawn and defined.
