Terry Welsh, AIA LEED AP
With a keen appreciation for history and what the architecture profession has learned from it, Terry views himself as part of a continuum of designers dedicated to integrating their architectural design work with urban design’s mission to create better places that are more livable, more sustainable, and that provide a framework where opportunities exist for all members of the community.
Terry has been instrumental in the architectural design for two separate projects in India. In connection with a new township master plan designed by UDA for the Indian corporation, ESSAR, Terry helped create several prototype designs for multi-family buildings to be used throughout the project. For a separate new township project, in Ludhiana, India, Terry helped design five single-family villa unit prototypes. Both projects involved the creation of exciting new architecture that is responsive to the local climate and sensitive to local precedent and tradition. Additionally, he has been a key member of a team that is developing an extensive portfolio of residential design work for numerous clients in the Daybreak community near Salt Lake City, Utah.
Education and Previous Experience
Terry earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame where he participated in the University’s Rome Studies Program as well as the South Bend Urban Design Studio.
Prior to joining UDA in 2008, Terry was a designer and project manager with Kil Architecture/Planning in South Bend, Indiana. During his tenure with Kil, Terry was project lead on several notable projects including a new headquarters for the LaSalle Council of the Boy Scouts of America; the historic preservation and adaptive reuse of two large 19th century buildings, the Hattle Hotel and the Shoots Building in Goshen, Indiana, a project that provided more than 30 affordable housing units for a local non-profit; and Trio’s Restaurant and Jazz Club, a popular new destination in downtown South Bend.
